XL Construction offers a complete range of construction, construction management, and general contracting services. We are particularly proud of a few of our services, which are worth special highlighting:

Safety

The Health and Safety of the men and women involved in any construction project is of critical importance to the success of the project. XL Construction develops and implements specific Health and Safety plans for each project. These plans always include the XL Construction ‘Subcontractor Safety Program' (SSP). This program effectively binds subcontractor personnel to the commitment of safety for everyone affected by the project; project personnel, client employees, and the general public.

The development and promotion of these safety ideals is best reflected in XL Construction's record of no OSHA recordable injuries in 2005 and 2004 and an average recordable injury rate of 1.15 for the last 5 years.

Preconstruction

Preconstruction services have a dramatic effect on the outcome of a project. Effective preconstruction services help projects get off on the right foot and stay on track.

Our preconstruction services approach includes extensive involvement from project management and superintendent staff, resulting in a seamless transition from preconstruction to construction. Through our preconstruction services, XL Construction often uncovers creative ways to reduce construction costs, or to respond to specific project challenges while staying within budget and schedule.

Design-Build Expertise

In three quarters of our projects, XL Construction provides design-build or design-assist services. This statistic demonstrates that XL Construction is valued for our ability to solve construction challenges by guiding the project's design and managing cost – an especially noteworthy accomplishment considering the technical nature and complexity of so many of our projects.

Design-build arrangements offer our clients single-source responsibility for a construction project; schedule control from conceptual design through occupancy; and a cost-effective project design. Even clients who do not have a design-build project benefit from our broad and deep experience that comes from frequent involvement in the design phase of projects.

Sustainable Design & Construction

XL Construction's LEED-accredited professionals provide value whether the goal is to incorporate limited Green products into the project or to build an entire LEED-certified facility.

XL Construction’s corporate headquarters and shop are LEED-CI Silver Certified and we are currently working on, or have completed, almost $100 million worth of LEED projects totaling more than 350,000 square feet.

MEP Management

The management of MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems can make or break a construction project, but also provides extra benefits beyond the scope of the project if executed properly.

On Design-build and Design-assist jobs, XL's MEP department oversees the design and construction of complex mechanical, electrical, and piping systems. This ensures that these systems are designed efficiently, installed properly, and meet the owner's requirements. XL's MEP program provides:

Basis of Design creation or review
Design peer review
MEP value engineering
MEP instructions to bidders
MEP subcontractor technical, engineering aspect proposal evaluation
Installation quality assurance
Management of commissioning, if required

Self-Performed Work

By self-performing some trades with our experienced craftspeople, XL Construction is better able to manage the quality and schedule of our projects.

Our self-performed work group is managed independently from our project groups. This independence allows them to specialize, providing a higher level of quality than our competition, but still providing the same pro-active, solution oriented, culture that permeates XL Construction.
