USGBC presents XL Construction with LEED Silver Certification of its headquarters.

XL Construction Corporation unveiled a plaque certifying its headquarters as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building on Thursday. Dan Geiger, Executive Director of the U.S. Green Building Council – Northern California Chapter, presented XL Construction with its LEED Silver certification.

“XL Construction is a partner in our (USGBC’s) mission,” said Geiger. “As a top leader in green building, it is companies like XL that are laying the groundwork for the new ‘green’ economy.”

The 38,000 square-foot office and shop features several sustainable elements including: water-efficient plumbing and recycled water for landscaping; rapidly-renewable and recycled materials with low-VOC emissions; solar tracking skylights; and energy-efficient HVAC systems.

XL Construction manages the LEED certification process for 80 percent of its green projects. In addition to its own building, XL Construction has built LEED registered projects for The Harker School, BD Biosciences, Apple, Pfizer (Sugen) and Lockheed Martin.
