XL Construction Honored for Philanthropic Contributions

Side-by-side with top tech companies including Applied Materials, Intel and Microsoft, XL Construction Corporation was recently recognized as one of the "Top 50 Corporate Philanthropists" at the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal's Annual Corporate Philanthropy event.

"It was really an honor to be recognized for our efforts, especially considering the company that we were in," said XL Construction Director of Human Resources Jerry Harmon. "But more than anything, I see this recognition as testimony of who we are as a company, and of the nature of our employees."

XL Construction contributed to many local charities and non-profit organizations throughout 2008 including Rebuilding Together, South Bay Children's Medical Center and The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Additionally, the company embraced the spirit of giving during the holiday season with contributions to CityTeam Ministries, Gifts from the Heart program and the One Warm Coat drive.

To help the company best decide which organizations receive gifts, XL employees formed a contributions committee. According to XL, the committee solicits input from all employees as to where funds should go, helping to keep many of the contributions local, and benefiting numerous community organizations.

"Our company purpose, We Build to Improve Lives ®, is really the inspiration for everything we do at XL, and our history of charitable giving is a big part of that," said Harmon. "It's our way of giving back to a community that has made us successful."

Harmon went on to say that it was also great to see some of XL's clients recognized for their contributions to the community, including Kaiser Permanente, Agilent Technologies, Amgen, Lam Research and the even the top corporation this year, Applied Materials.
