Varian Medical Systems

The Varian project was a 100,000 square foot project including complete interior demolition and abatement, seismic upgrades, and new HVAC systems and tenant improvement of office and research and development labs. The project was awarded Gold Certification under the LEED for Commerical Interiors. Highlights include: waste water generation reduction of 69.4 percent; waste diversion (recycling) of 78.99 percent; and lighting power reduction of 25.68 percent. This was aided by the installation of four 10-foot by 20-foot light wells bringing daylight into the core of the building and the addition of light shelves and other light saving features. Other features include low VOC emitting carpets, paints and materials. XL’s in-house MEP department provided enhanced commissioning to optimize the energy performance of the new HVAC systems.
