Internships and Coops

XL Construction offers internships to university students interested in a career in the construction industry. Internships provide students with an opportunity to experience actual construction practices in the field – to make a direct link between what they are learning in the classroom and the real world of construction. Ideally, students find that when they return to school, their classes have more meaning.

At the same time, internships provide us with a chance to get to know the capabilities of potential future employees and, we hope, instill a passion for the construction industry in general, and XL Construction in particular.

We believe it is important that we provide rich, job site-focused experiences for interns. Our internships cover three categories of job tracks:

traditional project engineer, a track that can lead to a career as a project manager
field engineer, with more field-focused activities, leading to a project superintendent career
cost engineer, a path that can lead toward an estimator or career in preconstruction services

Last summer, we had project engineer interns working on biopharmaceutical, aerospace, healthcare, and LEED projects valued at $5 Million to $70 Million.
