    XL’s Kelley Cowan and SRBX‘s Women In Construction committee were recognized on the Assembly Floor for educating, inspiring, and advancing women in the construction industry and helping them build meaningful careers. This group played a role in gaining support and bringing awareness to ACR-182 Women in Construction Week, a resolution for the State to support policy efforts to achieve at least 20% women in the construction industry by 2020.

    Imagine a day, where instead of cars parallel parked, you saw tiny little parks with people playing games, talking and enjoying the great outdoors… brilliant, right? Rebar, a San Francisco Art and Design Studio, thought so in 2005 when they first transformed a metered parking space into a public park. Today, Park(ing) Day is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks to bring attention to pedestrian-friendly urban spaces.

    XL’s Sacramento office teamed up with Stantec to create ‘Waterplay.’ Our team took this opportunity to discuss water conservation in a fun, interactive way. Stantec focused on the design, while XL focused on the constructability and the outcome was spectacular. The park featured Sprinkler Ring TossHigh-Efficiency Duck Hunt and The Game of Thrones, Ping-pong toss to share in a fun, simple way the importance of capturing rain water, energy efficient washing machines and low flow toilets. It even made it on the news!
