El Camino Hospital Linac

El Camino Hospital’s Center for Advanced Radiotherapy and Cyberknife Radiosurgery consisted of ground-up construction of a new 7,100 s.f. radiation oncology facility to house a linear accelerator, Cyberknife, HDR and CT scanner – requiring the construction of three concrete vaults – in an aggressive five and a half month schedule. Site improvements included landscaping bio-swales and parking.

The utilities of the cutting edge equipment in the facility were encased in up te feet of concrete and lined in lead, requiring precise planning. XL’s preconstruction team used BIM to:

  • Visualize the building in the early design phase to help make decisions on value engineering opportunities;
  • Present a virtual model and estimate of the project to El Camino Hospital, allowing the project team to visualize the impacts of budget changes; and,
  • Enable early coordination of the MEP design with the structural and architectural elements.
