Responsibilities:
- Lead role for Electrical Estimating Team
- Provide leadership/mentoring to junior level estimators on the XL Team
- XL Team SME for (4) Technical Scopes: Electrical, Fire Life Safety/Fire Alarm, Low Voltage, Site Electrical
- Review Design Documents (drawings and specifications) during concept, schematic, design development, and construction stages
- Proficient at conceptual and detailed level estimating
- Concept – Early stages of design (e.g. Test Fits, Floor Plans, Basis of Design). Initial prediction of project cost.
- Ability to size equipment and electrical infrastructure
- Develop layouts of system infrastructure and utilize estimating software or similar take-off tool
- Detailed – Developed design (e.g. MEP Plans, Design Narrative, Single Lines, Electrical Schematics)
- Complete take-offs and develop pricing utilizing estimating software
Perform all Electrical estimating functions on projects across all XL Market Sectors
- Develop and provide estimate product that aligns with Client expectations
- Coordinate scope with team to address any scope gaps and potential design risks
- Incorporate all estimate qualifications in Client estimate package
- Participate in final assembly of Estimate Package
Participate in Estimate Review or Reconciliation meetings, whether with XL Construction or Client
- Perform Electrical bidding/buyout functions on projects across all XL Market Sectors
- Prepare and/or participate in selection of bidders for all Electrical packages
- Development of accurate scopes of work for all Electrical work
- Draft and write budget/bid/buyout documents for all Electrical bid packages
- Align bid documents (e.g. Scope of Work) with CSA and Mechanical Estimating team members
- Check-in with bidders throughout buyout phase to ensure received pricing is in alignment with XL Construction estimate and/or scope understanding
- Perform detailed analytical reviews of trade partner submissions and leveling of bids for all Electrical scopes of work
Conduct proposal review and present final bid recommendation to Group Manager
- Expert with unit and systems pricing for Electrical trades
- Ability to develop an accurate systems-based Cost Model
- Participate in value management process (e.g. JOIN software)
- Track impact of industry procurement and supply chain issues on project cost
- Participate in identification of technical design risks that impact cost and recommend appropriate mitigation
- Build and establish relationships with Clients through solid work product, effective communication, and strong meeting presence (as required)
- Continuous engagement with Consultants, Designers, and Trade Partners
- Understand subcontractor bidding risks and exercises XL Best Bidding Practices
- Keep project tasks on track by meeting deadlines
- Participate in weekly MEP team staff meetings to align on deliverable expectations
- Participate in weekly Estimating Group meetings to align on project expectations and company initiatives
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to manage multiple project estimates simultaneously
- Experience using Estimating Take-Off Software - On-Screen Take-Off (OST) & Bluebeam
- Proficient in using Microsoft applications
- Experience in Database Estimating Software
- Must have experience leading/mentoring other estimators
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience as an Electrical Estimator or Manager in the Construction Industry
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Construction-related Technology, or related disciplines
- Estimating and Bidding experience in 1) Life Sciences, 2) Civic, 3) Corporate Office, 4) Healthcare, 5) Technology, 6) Education market sectors
- Estimating and Bidding experience with Lump Sum, Design-Build, Design-Assist, Plan & Spec, Hard Bid and GMP project delivery methods
- Competency and technical understanding with Electrical, Fire Life Safety/Fire Alarm, Communications, Security, Audio Visual, Site Electrical
- Familiarity with Electrical and Fire Alarm codes
Position Location: Milpitas or Oakland, CA
Salary range: $135,000 - $170,000
