XL Construction helped Ford expand its research and innovation campus into two adjacent 75,000 s.f. cold-shell buildings. XL and design-build partner HED built out the interiors and made exterior improvements, creating a thriving environment for Ford researchers who are fusing automotive technological and design innovations. These contemporary workspaces are key to Ford’s employee recruitment within competitive Silicon Valley. XL’s work included code compliant access structural upgrades, complete MEPF fit-up, and elevator installation. XL built out all interior spaces, constructing collaborative work areas for 500 people, conference rooms, a lobby, project spaces, design thinking areas, labs for audio acoustics work, driving simulation stations, and a design showroom space. XL also completed common spaces, such as bathrooms, showers, quiet areas, mothers’ rooms, and break areas for team huddles. XL created an auditorium for highlighting breakthroughs by Ford teams that included a custom Newmat ceiling system, seating, and a track lighting system.

To the RIC XL Team:
Congratulations on completing the Research & Innovation Center Project on time and within the budget. Doing all the extra work while still meeting our compressed schedule with an outstanding safety record is very impressive and took a lot of effort and dedication from the entire team. Achieving approximately 110,000 contractor hours with no time lost or recordable injuries is worth noting. As the Ford Land Project Manager on the site, I appreciate your dedication to the health and safety of the entire team.
Looking forward to the FSM A2 floor construction with similar success.
Thank you.
